PATRICK J. MURPHY, JR.
President and CEO
Pat Murphy, Jr. is our President and CEO. The great-grandson of our founder, John C. Murphy, Pat is the fourth member of the Murphy clan to serve as president of the company. Under his leadership, Murphy Company has grown to be one of the nation’s leading and innovative mechanical and industrial contractors with cutting-edge technology, a workforce of 1,000-plus in Missouri and Colorado, and an impressive client roster. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in Administration and Economics, Pat also is a graduate of the MCCA’s Leadership Institute. He joined Murphy Company in 1995 as an estimator and then worked in virtually every department within the company to learn the business inside and out.
Pat is an active community leader as a member of the Young President’s Organization, St. Louis Regional Chamber and the Regional Business Council. Pat and his wife, Laura, believe in giving back to the community, especially as members of United Way’s de Tocqueville Society in both St. Louis and Denver. He is a longtime board member for Chaminade College Preparatory School, his high school alma mater. He also has served as Secretary /Trustee for SSM (St. Mary’s) Health Foundation. Always at the forefront of industry leadership, he helped found the AGC of St. Louis Young Constructors Forum (YCF) and served with the local AGC board. Pat played soccer for Notre Dame. He also has a passion for fishing with his family and favorite captain in Florida. Pat married his high school sweetheart and, together, Laura and Pat have two daughters and a son.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Dave Hardin is Murphy Company’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. A trained mechanical engineer and a licensed mechanical contractor, he is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla (MU S & T). Dave oversees every aspect of our company’s operations and has served as managing principal on numerous major projects in the manufacturing and industrial sectors. With a keen eye for sound business practices, he helped lead the move to diversify the company’s service line to protect the company from cyclical construction down markets. He also personally oversaw the expansion and re-alignment of our Denver operations to meet burgeoning industry needs. As a member of the International Pipe Trades Joint Training Committee, Dave also keeps a watchful eye on new training opportunities for our employees. Dave is a licensed pilot, loves flying, and has a passion for rebuilding aircraft. He and his lovely wife, Linda, have been married 41 years and they have two children and five grandchildren.
Chief Financial Officer
Rob Koester, CPA, is our Chief Financial Officer. A graduate of Truman State University with a B.S. in Accounting, Rob began his career with Deloitte and joined Murphy Company in 2003. Since then, he has worked diligently to ensure Murphy is always in the soundest of financial positions to tackle multiple large projects and, when necessary, to weather any temporary downturns in the construction market. He oversaw the implementation of accounting Best Practices, leads the HR and IT departments, and led the implementation of Murphy’s ERP system. Understanding that leading-edge technology and state-of-the-art data and communications systems serve at the center of our success, Rob has expanded talent and resources dedicated to these essential areas of our business. Rob is an active community volunteer and serves as chairman of St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation Board. Rob and his lovely wife, Christi, have two children, a daughter and son. Rob loves coaching his son’s travel baseball team.
MARK L. BENGARD, P.E.
Senior Vice President, Sales and Pre-Construction
Mark Bengard is our Senior Vice President of Sales and Pre-Construction. Mark is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla (MU S &T) and is a registered professional engineer in the states of California, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma and Florida. He led the development of design-build Best Practices at Murphy Company and has served as managing principal on numerous, complex building projects. Named Engineer of the Year in 2007 by the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, he is past president of the St. Louis chapter of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA). Mark also is a certified member of the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB), and an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE). Mark is a fervent St. Louis Blues fan and is passionate about Classic Cars. He also enjoys spending time with Nancy, his charming wife of 40 years, their two children and two grandchildren.
ROBERT N. MATHISEN, P.E.
Senior Vice President, General Manager – Colorado Office
Bob Mathisen is Senior Vice President and General Manager of the firm’s Colorado offices. A registered, professional civil engineer with 35 years of industry experience, Bob oversees sales and operations for Murphy Company in Colorado and surrounding states. In addition to projects at several military and higher education facilities, including the U.S Air Force Academy and the University of Colorado-Boulder, the Murphy team frequently performs commercial and industrial work in the fast-growing Colorado biopharmaceutical, health care, energy, data center and brewing industries. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Cornell University and also has studied finance and accounting through Columbia University. Bob is a member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering and the Mechanical Contractors Association of America for which he serves on the Management Methods Committee. He also is a former Trustee for the Pipefitter Pension and Health & Welfare Funds, Local 357. Bob grew up in Massachusetts and attended Cornell in New York where he played on two National Championship Lacrosse teams. Bob has a charming and patient wife, Tracie, three lovely daughters, a dog named Millie, and Mathilda, their cat. Bob enjoys sailing, kayaking and hiking, but most of all, the New York Giants, discussing politics, and spending time with family.
Thomas C. Skaggs
Vice President of Operations
Tom Skaggs, our Vice President of Operations, has been a member of the Murphy team for over 25 years. Tom led safety efforts for Murphy Company for many years, moving into a broader Missouri operations role in 2014. Tom was first introduced to the complexities and importance of world-class safety performance while working in the nuclear weapon division of the U.S. Air Force, where his responsibilities included performing and overseeing maintenance of 150 Minuteman II ICBM’s and their relative Launch Control Facilities. Tom’s leadership and performance of those under his direction earned him the designation of Master Team Chief. He oversaw Murphy’s safety program for two decades, building the company’s training program and establishing an enviable safety record in the industry. He also started and served as general manager, and then, COO of QualSafe Solutions, a subsidiary division of Murphy Company that provides safety related services to owners and other construction companies. Tom is chairman of the National Safety and Health Committee for the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA), which represents approximately 2,600 firms. Tom is the proud father of an active third grader and helps coach his son’s Little League football team that recently won their grade’s SuperBowl. He enjoys hunting and fishing, and writing and playing music. He is an accomplished guitarist and has composed over 50 original instrumental pieces.
Christopher M. Carter
Vice President of Service
Chris Carter is Murphy Company’s Vice President of Service. With more than 22 years’ experience in mechanical and industrial contracting and service, Chris lives and breathes customer service. He deploys our highly experienced technicians when and where you need them – for routine maintenance, scheduled upgrades, or in emergency situations. He understands that your mechanical systems serve at the heart of your daily work and is here to ensure that all of your systems are working properly at all times. He has earned an enviable record for helping facility managers keep their buildings in top working order at all times. Chris is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), the Building Owner and Managers Association (BOMA), and the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA). He is most actively involved in the Mechanical Service Contractors Association (MSCA) where he was inducted as Chairman of Board in 2016. Prior to appointment as Chairman, Chris served on the board of managers, education committee and various tasks forces. Chris is passionate about education and employee development and frequently teaches industry classes related to sales, sales management and leadership. Outside of work, Chris enjoys running, playing music, LSU Tiger’s football, St Louis Cardinal’s baseball, and any venue where he can enjoy time with his wife, Christy, and three children.
