Murphy Company offers internships and co-ops in various departments to provide students the opportunity to experience jobs within the construction industry.
It allows the student to combine classroom learning with real-world experience. It also permits the student to explore their field of study to determine if it truly is a match for the career they envision.
Many of our interns and co-ops are Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management students; however, we also have offered internships to Management Information System, Information Technology, and Business Administration students. We strive to make the internships and co-op opportunities meaningful by offering practical experience and exposing the students to real-world events they will encounter in the construction industry.
Our internships and co-op opportunities have a history of success and have proven to be a springboard from which students can launch a career at Murphy. For example, approximately 40% of our Design/Build team is comprised of former Murphy interns and co-ops who began their careers with us after graduation. They have grown in knowledge and experience, with some accepting supervisory, mentoring, and leadership roles.
Internships and co-op opportunities are mutually valuable to the student and to Murphy. The students can explore different roles within their fields of study and Murphy is exposed to high-quality students passionate about their future careers. It’s another example of developing enduring relationships that start before the student’s career even begins.
