MURPHY COMPANY WINS ACE AWARD FROM AGC OF COLORADO

DENVER –Murphy Company was honored with a Bronze Award at the AGC of Colorado Industry Gala and ACE

Awards banquet, The event, held Oct. 28, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Colorado Convention Center, recognized contractors’ creativity, skill and excellence.

Murphy was awarded the Bronze ACE Award for its work on the Woodward IS project in the Best Building Project Over $10M – Specialty Contractor category. Murphy was responsible for all the plumbing, HVAC and mechanical piping as well as specialty process & compressed air systems for the new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing and production building for the Woodward Lincoln Campus Industrial Turbine Systems (IS) group in Ft. Collins. Phase 2 included a 60,000-square-foot corporate headquarters office building.

Mortenson served as general contractor. The entire project was coordinated, detailed, fabricated and installed with a cohesive BIM 360 model, working with Mortenson’s BIM modeling team. Murphy received a Mortenson Star Award in Quality for its extensive use of in-house prefabrication shops and the resulting high quality of the installed product. Murphy installed thousands of feet of piping in the skeleton of the building using prefabricated structural steel racks. Murphy also pre-fabricated equipment skids with pumps, chillers and boilers, installing these skids before the beginning of the installation of the exterior building skin.

One of the major accomplishments by Murphy was the gas test cell deployment, which included the rigging and final setting of four, 80-foot-long, 161,000-pound high pressure compressed air tanks. The crane for these tank lifts was a 440-ton crawler crane, brought in from northern Canada. (There were very few, if any, cranes in the contiguous United States that would be up to the task.) Pre-planning took six months and the tank lifts were executed to perfection.

Woodward integrates leading edge technologies to meet the demand for fuel-efficient, low-emission, and high performance energy management. The ITS facility gives Woodward the upgraded capacity and ability to not only manufacture, but also to test the various high sensitivity valves and control devices to meet and exceed their customers’ needs.
